This book provides a new insight
into a largely unexplored culture of Africa by means of numerous illustrations
(more than 550 photos and 228 drawings) and an introductory text (English
abstract: 8 pages). The terracotta figurines of the Komaland (Northern Ghana)
were not discovered until around 1980. They surprised both scientists and
artisans and made an intensive study of this culture necessary. In the text of
the book, the figurines are discussed with regard to their discovery, their
origin and their possible meaning, all within the
framework of the latest state of archaeological and historical research.

Dieses Buch gewährt anhand zahlreicher Abbildungen (über 550 Fotos, 228 Zeichnungen) und eines einführenden Textes (48 Seiten) einen neuen, aufschlussreichen Einblick in eine bisher noch weitgehend unerschlossene Kultur Afrikas.
Die Terrakotta-Objekte des Komalandes wurden erst um 1980 in Nordghana entdeckt und haben sowohl Wissenschaftler als auch Kunstexperten überrascht und eine intensive Beschäftigung mit dieser Kultur notwendig gemacht. Im Textteil des Buches werden die Figuren in Hinblick auf ihren Ursprung, ihre Entdeckung und ihre mögliche Bedeutung nach neustem Stand der archäologischen und historischen Forschung untersucht.
